Most of my work is through schools, however I do have some limited capacity to take a few referrals from parents. I have a waiting list for assessments and cannot usually assess a pupil at short notice. During busy periods, I may not be able to respond to all enquiries, but I try to see as many pupils as possible.
For enquiries about an individual pupil, please use the contact form below.
For general enquiries that are not about assessment of an individual pupil (e.g. schools requesting further information), I can be contacted on edpsych@ginnywhitton.co.uk. Please note parental requests for individual assessments are not accepted via email.
Before enquiring about an individual assessment please note the following:
Availability: Due to high demand, there is typically a waiting list for individual assessments of 2-3 months, which may be longer at busy times.
Type of work undertaken: I only work with pupils up to the age of 16 years 11 months. This is because I do not hold assessment materials for older pupils or adults. I do not currently undertake tribunal work.
Cost: Standard assessments are £725 and usually involve gathering background information from the parents and school, a detailed cognitive assessment, literacy attainments, a feedback meeting and written report. Identification of specific difficulties with literacy (dyslexia) is included in the cost of a standard assessment. There are small additional charges if other areas also need to be explored, such as maths, screening for attention issues or ADHD, anxiety, sensory processing, social skills or autism. Consultations, coaching and other work are usually charged at £100 per hour.
Location of assessments: assessments can take place at school (with school permission), at the child's house or at my home office in between Stroud and Cirencester.
Diagnosis of autism or attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD): I often work with pupils who have attention difficulties and social communication and interaction needs, providing strategies to support them. My assessments can help clarify whether further medical assessment for autism or ADHD is advisable and information from my reports often contributes towards a diagnostic assessment. However, an educational psychology assessment alone will not result in a diagnosis of autism or ADHD.
Access Arrangements: Information from my reports can be used by the schools that I regularly support to provide evidence for access arrangements for exams (e.g. extra time) for GCSEs, 11+, ISEB pre-tests etc. However, the school needs to be involved in the process and, at secondary level, testing for access arrangements is often undertaken by the school. So, please discuss the situation with the SENCo before requesting an assessment. Testing for exam arrangements for GCSEs is done no earlier than Year 9. There are usually strict deadlines for applications for access arrangements, so please check the necessary timescales with the school/exam board.
