What does the assessment involve?
The first step is to make contact with me to discuss your child's needs. The best way to do this is via the form in the 'contact me' section. If an assessment is agreed, a date is provisionally set and information is then gathered about your child including their strengths and needs as well as any support that is in place. A pre-assessment form is used to help structure this and once this is returned the date is confirmed. With your permission, information is also sought from your child's school.
On the day, an assessment is carried out which may include:
An observation of your child or young person in the classroom; Individual work with the pupil to find out about their strengths and needs as well as their views on their learning; Discussion with adults who know your child well, such as teachers or other professionals.
Assessments can be carried out at your child's school (with their permission), at your house or at my home office.
What can I expect following an assessment?
Following the assessment, a feedback meeting is held (either on the same day or shortly after the assessment) in order to gain views, listen to concerns and feedback the assessment results. Ways forward and strategies are discussed.
A report is written and sent no more than two weeks after the assessment. This summarises the assessment findings and ways forward including agreed actions and strategies that can be put in place to address the needs of the child or young person.
A review meeting can be arranged at a later date if required to evaluate progress and strategies.
I can work in a variety of ways in schools and will be guided by you. For example, I can carry out individual assessment work, offer a block of sessions or consultation or coaching sessions for teachers or parents or training. Having previously worked as a class teacher, I understand the increasing demands placed on teachers - it is important to me to work with you in a supportive way and I always aim to adopt a pragmatic and practical approach.
If required, an independent EP report can be used to contribute towards an EHCP application, annual review or if there are concerns about placement for example.
Please contact me for a chat or to discuss your needs further.
Individual assessments
If an individual assessment is required please either complete the contact me form or contact me via email.
Once a date is agreed, I will send out pre-assessment forms to be completed by yourself and by parents. The involvement may include an observation in the classroom, individual work with the child as well as discussion with adults how know them well.
